Portraits, John Milton, Carl August Deis, Frederick Newenham
"John Milton in seinem zwölften Lebensjahr" (Milton 1608-1674)
Milton in his 12th year of life.
It is not fair to reduce Milton to his famous poem "Paradise Lost".
But the poetic importance of it and the controversy it causes even into our time (with de depiction of Satan) has such remarkable impact, that it may be permitted as a brief notice for a portrait like this.
Milton is claimed as an important forerunner of modern vegetarism.
