PIRANESI - Clocks
Giovanni Battista Piranesi ( 1720-1778), Italian architect, engraver, archeologist of proportion, is widely known as the creator of the famous series: ãVedute di Roma", those striking, imperial folio size and incomperable views of Rome. But Piranesi's oeuvre is a lot wider. Have a look at these excellent etchings of clocks.
The series we show here, come from Piranesi's ãDiverse Maniere d'adornare i cammini ed ogni altra parte degli edifizi desunte dall'archittetura Egizia, Etrusca e Greca con un Ragionamento Apologetico in defesa dell'Archittetura Egizia, e Toscana, opera del Cavaliere Giambattista Piranesi architteto".
(Divers Ways of ornamenting chimney-pieces and all other parts of houses taken from Egyptian, Etruscan, and Grecian architecture with an Apologia in defense of Egyptian and Tuscan architecture, the work of Cavaliere Giambattista Piranesi.)
