Condimentum in translation from Latin: Spices
Copper etching by Johanna Sibylla Kuesel (1650-1717). She was a niece to Maria Sibylla Merian.
After getting married to Johann Ulrich Krauss, she changed her signature to "Kraussin".
It was the time when European ships returned from Asia loaded with never before known and very much appreciated spices. A going saying was, that pepper and gold were of same value. Here we are looking at a harbor city with arriving sailships.
