The upper part of this title page is devoted to Astronomy: Atlas carrying the earth. And astronomers eager observing, studying and deciphering the riddles of the world. On the left a celestial globe, on the right an astronomer measuring and surveying the earth. Above all the sun, the moon and stars lovely staged.
The title cartouche framed with many crowned coats of arms . To the left the European explorers. On the right a congregation of natives of all known continents.
At bottom Hondius's own cartouche. He was one of the early and very important Dutch geographers and publishers of atlases.
