Maps, Italy, Sicily, Calabria, Policastro, Rotonda, Amendolara, Aeolian Islands
No title. Map of Sicily and Calabria. Anonymous lithograph.
We had doubts about taking this map to be offered on our webpage, because we know almost nothing about it, and the map had been folded horizontally and vertically many times. Looking at it close-up, we decided that it belongs here nevertheless, because it is very detailed and, despite all its faults, very attractive. Someone pencil-marked it as being from 1835, a replicable assumption.
There is a little margin in the north of Calabria indicating that the map was not cut off from the rest of Italy. Sicily, Calabria is shown in nice detail south from the Gulf of Policastro, Rotonda and Amendolara. Sicily shows itself very detailed as well as the Aeolian Islands.
Original antique print
As mentioned above, this map has many folds (to fit a miniature book???). Some insignificant tears and little holes have been repaired by underlaying paper. Generally a desireable map in spite of its drawbacks.
