Maps, Germany, Frankfurt and surroundings, Novam hanc...
"Novam hanc Territorii Francofurtensis Tabulam..." Copper etching by Johann (1596-1673) and Corneille (died 1648) Blaeu, published ca 1640. Original hand coloring.
This very decorative map shows Frankfurt and the surrounding area. It is "framed" by a colorful garland of coats-of-arms that is held together by a cord held by the personifications of "Counsel" and "Concordia". In the upper right is "Pax" holding a coat-of-arms and "Justitia" holds another in the upper left corner. The title cartouche is at the bottom in the center. Verso: Text in Latin.
Original antique print
Print has age toning and a small spot on both the right and left margins. There is a restored (hardly noticeable) hole in the center coat-of-arms above the title cartouche at the bottom of the map. Except for this repair, the condition is Almost Very Good.
