Granata (Granada, Spain)
"Granata" (Granada). Originally colored copper engraving by Georg Hoefnagel ( 1543-1600) dated in the plate 1565, but published in "Civitates Orbis Terrarum" by Georg Braun and Franz Hogenberg in Cologne ca 1570.
A full double page view of this grand city with a legend cartouche is north-east oriented. In the foreground, alongside a road leading to Granada a group of people making for a lively staffage. The Alhambra is on the hill on the right and in the background are the Sierra Nevada mountains. A pomegranate branch with a bow holds the cartouche with the map's legend. Verso: Text in Latin.
General light toning in the margins. In the left and right margins are almost invisible water stains. Two little spots in upper margin. Repaired tear in upper left corner. Overall condition is Very Good.
