Hand-colored woodcut, a half bird's eye view of the Bavarian town on an island in Lake Constance (Bodensee).

Looking at this charming old woodcut, we are actually looking at the East end of Lake Constance (Bodensee), featuring of course a very attractive view of Lindau in Bavaria. On the left we discover Bregenz (Austria, Vorarlberg), we see the mouth of the river Ach as it flows into Lake Constance. We see the town of Hard (Vorarlberg) and Fussach (Switzerland) near the mouth of the river Rhine, as it also flows into Lake Constance. What a charming view!

Condition: There are age related traces. The print has a pleasant age toning. Margins are partially worn, and there are minor creases, which do not disturb the general impression of the beautiful print. See scan above.

Published in "Cosmographia" by Sebastian Muenster (1488-1552). German language edition.
