Magnificent view of Constantinople (Istanbul) from the hillside of Pera. The "Palais de France" in Pera was the French Embassy to Turkey since Suleyman the Magnificent. A fire in 1831 destroyed the old building. An elegant villa, also called the "Palais de France", was inaugurated in 1839 as the French Embassy. The embassy is no longer in this still existing villa, however.
