Original drawing, St Paul's, Covent Garden, Dr. George Richards, Alderman Henry Winchester, Thomas Howell Jones
Eight of the select vestry of St Paul's, Covent Garden dining in the vestry room. At the head of the table is the vicar of St Martin-in-the-Fields, Dr. George Richards, and gnawing a bone is Alderman Henry Winchester. A case of debauchery.
Washed ink over pencil drawing. Title and all writing in pencil. Partially cancelled and newly composed text.
Unfortunately anonymous sketch of which the copper plate was etched. The sketch was partially hand colored by the artist. Neither this sketch nor the etching for which it was the reference, bear an artist's address.
The British Museum attributes the etching to Thomas Howell Jones. Etching was published in London, 1828. It seems safe to assume that the sketch dates from the same year.
The sketch is hung on to a light cardboard in the two upper corners.
It shows some some traces of age and use. On the upper right side we state some warping of the paper.
There is no to little margins beyond surrounding bordering line.*
