Historic comparison of highest balloon travels

Beginning at bottom of print with the tip of the Gizeh Pyramid we find numerous dates and elivations reached by various balloon flights up to the Gauri Shankar in Nepal compared. The highest on this tabula was the balloon ride of Aeronaut James Glaisher (1819-1903) in September of 1862, who lost his conciousness in the open basket, when he and his companion Henry Coxwell reached the altitude of 8838 meters. Coxwell was able to manage the descent of the ballon, so that Glaisher survived. It was only 32 years later that this altitude record was beaten by Arthur Berson, who, with the help of oxygen, reached 9155 m in 1894.
