"Des Herrn Admirals, Lord Ansons Reise um Die Welt, welche Er als Oberbefehlshaber ueber ein
Geschwader von Sr. Grossbritannischen Majestaet Kriegsschiffen, die zu einer Unternehmung in die Suedsee ausgeschickt worden, in den Jahren 1740, 41, 42, 43, 44, verrichtet hat...."
This book was published 1749 as the first German edition.
This highly interesting book of exploration is bound in leather with 382 pages.
At the beginning of the book are 44 pages of introduction.
At the end of the text are 6 pages of word descriptions and 14 pages of register (Index).
After the title page are 4 dedication pages to Herrn Gerlach Adolf Freyherrn von Muenchhausen.
The book includes 34 copper engravings. Most are foldouts due to the large size.
Some are 55 cm in height and others 90 cm width.
The maps are of such places as California, the Philippines, Acapulco. Chile, etc.
There are engravings of animals seen on the trip as well as images of the ships.
The overall condition of the book is acceptable for a book this age.
The title page and some of the pages in the first part of the bok show some browning and spotting.
The text in the main part of the book is clean as are almost all the copper engravings.
The copper engraving with spotting is shown in the group of photos.
The maps have multiple folds and some small tears where they are bound in the book.
The book covers show signs of age and use. Inside the front cover is the glue rest from an
exlibris and a library card.
With all the faults, it is still a fine book for an interested collector!
