Rome: - Temple of Antonius Pius and Faustina
"Antonii Pii, ac Faustinae Agg. Apotheosis pluribus iisdemque exquisitis, aptissimisque symbolis expressa"
Facade decor of this antique building, located at the northern edge of the Forum Romanum. It is one of the best preserved temples in Rome. Antonius Pius had it built in the year 141 A.D. for his deceased and deified wife Faustina. After his death the temple was dedicated also to him. In the 11th century the temple was transformed into a Catholic church: San Lorenzo in Miranda. This way the antique temple was preserved.
