"Le Theatre du Monde ou Nouvel Atlas, Mis en lumière par Guillaume & Jean Blaeu"
Title page of the Blaeu family "Atlas Major" third part.
Copper etching. Soft and yet determined original hand coloring. We stand in from t of the portico of the world, looking at an astronomer with his gear at left and a geographer unrolling a map at right. Above a celestial globe, at bottom the globe of our earth, with Felix Arabia, the Arabian peninsula facing us. Scattered around the earthal globe we see the insignia of freemasonry an atlas and, maybe, the book of wisdom. Yes, we face an impressive stage at a time of discovery!
