Poland, Danzig

“Le Vieil Arsenal de Dantzig” (“The Old Arsenal of Danzig”) is an original antique zincograph depicting the historic Old Arsenal in Danzig (Gdańsk), Poland.

Danzig is the historic German name for Gdańsk, an important port city on the Baltic Sea in northern Poland. For centuries, the city was one of the major commercial and maritime centers of the Baltic region, and its distinctive architecture reflects its complex history as a meeting place of Polish, German, Dutch, and other European cultural influences.

The Old Arsenal (Stary Arsenał) is a notable historic building in Gdańsk's Old Town, constructed in the early 17th century during a period when the city was one of the wealthiest and most important cities of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Its elaborate Renaissance and Mannerist architecture reflects the prosperity and international character of historic Danzig.

The French title “Le Vieil Arsenal de Dantzig” reflects the way historic European monuments were commonly presented in illustrated publications of the 19th century. The image provides an attractive architectural view of old Danzig/Gdańsk, making it particularly appealing to collectors of Polish history, European architecture, and antique city views.
