This piece of art, probably from a wall or ceiling fresco shows how Hercules mastered the first first of 12 tasks posed to him by King Eurystheos. If he would master all 12 tasks he would be accessed to the Olymp. The Nemean Lion had so thick a skin, that he could not been wounded. After Hercules had tried to kill the Lion with his club, and failed, Hercules strangled it, as is shown on this aquatinta.
