“Derer zu dem Thuringischen Creisse des Churfürstenthums Sachsen gehöhrigen Aemter Sachsenburg und Weissensee richtige Delineation nebst allen andern angrenzenden Gegenden. In Amsterdam by Petrus Schenk Privilegie 1753”
Antique Map of Weißensee and Sachsenburg, Thuringia, Germany – Petrus Schenk Jr., 1753
A beautifully detailed and well-preserved antique map of Weißensee and Sachsenburg and the surrounding region of Thuringia, Germany. This hand-colored copperplate map was produced by Petrus Schenk Jr. (1693–1775) and published in Amsterdam in 1753.
The map extends north to the Kyffhäuser, east to Rastenberg, south to Erfurt, and west to Marolterode. Particularly notable is the detailed network of rivers and streams depicted across a large part of the Thuringian Basin, along with numerous small settlements shown under their 18th-century names.
Lists of settlements, mountains, bodies of water, and other geographic features appear to the left and right of the main map. The title cartouche is located in the lower left, while the lower right contains a mileage scale and a key to the map's symbols.
A very attractive example with excellent original hand coloring.
