The upper part of this map shows the Mexican state of Sinaloa with its capital Culiacan. The focus stretches down to near Mazatlan. And, whats interesting, the long stretched island along the coast of Sinaloa is most likely meant to be Baja California, shown here at an early stage of knowledge.
The earliest Caribbean atlas map ever printed. Shows Southern Florida, the Bahamas and the Caribbean islands from Cuba to Martinique
Copper etching from the atlas ãTheatrum Orbis Terrarum" by Abraham Ortelius. Beautifully hand-colored. With three Renaissance cartouches. The map is dated 1579. But this exemplar was printed in Antwerp in 1592
