"Homme de Taeti" and "Femme de l'Isle de Taiti"
Copper etchings with original hand-coloring of a woman and a man from the Island of Tahiti with colorful tattoos.
Tattoos, we understand, originate from the Island of Tahiti and spread from there into many islands of the South Pacific.
These copper etchings with their rare original hand color were etched by Jacques Grasset de Saint-Sauveur (1757-1810). Published in "Costumes civils actuels de tous les peuples connus", Paris, 1788.
