These lithographs of Native Americans were done by the lithographer J. Honegger

after Johann Carl Bodmer (1809-1893), who had traveled in America together with

Prince Maximilian Alexander Philipp zu Wied-Neuwied (1782-1867) from 1832-34.

The Schinz edition was published in Zurich from 1835 to 1845

The individual prints of the collection we offer here are exquisitely hand-colored, heightened with eggwhite, brilliant in their colorful appearance. A very special set. There are only minimal traces of age and use in margins.

Johann Carl Bodmer (11 February 1809 – 30 October 1893) was a Swiss-French printmaker, etcher, lithographer, zinc engraver, draughtsman, painter, illustrator and hunter. He accompanied the German explorer Prince Maximilian zu Wied-Neuwied from 1832 through 1834 on his Missouri River expedition. Prince Alexander Philipp Maximilian zu Wied-Neuwied (23 September 1782 – 3 February 1867) was a German explorer, ethnologist and naturalist.
