Just ten kilometers west from the center of the City of Paris there is Chateau St. Cloud with its ample formal Renaissance gardens, essentially designed and built by formidable garden architect Tomaso Francini (1571-1651). Closely located as it was to the capital of France it was used for many royal festivities. The chateau was destroyed during the Prussian-French War 1870/71. In 1891 the ruin was war-destroyed chateau was demolished. Nowadays the Park of St. Cloud is a much enjoyed recreational park for Parisians and visitors from all over the world, and the City of St. Cloud is one of the poshest addresses for the Parisian Haute Volee (High Society).
