"Les Oies du Capitole"
This toned lithograph is about the story of the Gauls (Celts) attacking Rome some 2,400 years ago. In the Roman temple of Juno lived a flock of sacred geese. As the geese heard the sneaking Gauls in the night, they began to honk so loud as to alert the Roman guards who were able to stop the Gauls. Here one sees the festivities of the Romans celebrating victory over the Gauls.
This print was made after Victor Adam and published 1884.
Light natural age toning.
