This Scandinavian map shows Sweden with Finnland and part of Norway. The red line near the top is the Arctic Circle. In the lower right is Lithuania and Curland reaching as far south as Memel. Cherubs hold a coat of arms in the cartouche while a Viking looks on.

**a twitter follower alerted us as follows:
Could this be later? The Finnish South-East border looks more like after the Treaty of Abo (1743), not what was agreed in the Treaty of Nystad (1721).

Thank you to this very observant historian!
Our response:
This could be. Johann Baptist Homann issued his atlas in 1723. After his death in 1724 his son continued publishing. But he died already six years later. He had willed the Homann company to his two chief executives who operated the company on the same line as Homann sen. They had a production of new maps. But the old copper plates were further used. What changed is the hand coloring of the maps as borders changed and shifted for political reasons. My assumption is that the map, although first issued in 1723, was actually adjusted to new political facts and published in ca. 1750.
