Karte zeigt das Küstenland zwischen Elbe und Eider in der für diese frühen Atlanten typischen charmanten Renaissance-Art der Darstellung. Das "Theatrum Orbis Terrarium" von Abraham Ortelius war 1570 der erste jemals gedruckte Weltatlas. Die erste Ausgabe war klein, aber sofort erfolgreich, so dass Ortelius weitere Auflagen drucken liess. Gleichzeitig wuchs der Atlas. Jede neue Auflage enthielt auch neue Karten. Diese Karte von Dithmarschen wurde 1581 hinzugefügt. Sie hat im Atlas ein Gegenüber: Ostpreussen, das hier allerdings abgetrennt wurde.
