Marcus Eliezer Bloch (1723 - 1799) was a German ichthyologist and physician. He was one of the foremost scientists in this field. His Allgemeine Naturgeschichte der Fische" with 432 excellent copper etching plates of fish, published in Berlin between 1781 - 1795 in 12 volumes. This was the most important work on ichthyology in the 18th century.

We proudly offer here some of these 432 engravings in superb original coloring and in mostly outstanding condition and quality. All plates have pleasant light age toning, no spotting and show very minor traces of age and use. Any major defects will be mentioned as an individual description with the individual title and image. Some of the prints have a vertical centerfold.
